Passion pit sleepyhead what is it about
A few months later, with the help of Hultquist, Angelakos was building a full ensemble capable of realizing and producing the sounds in his head and taking them to the stage. The learning curve for Passion Pit was short and steep.
The pressure was unquestionably intense, especially for all shows leading up to -- and even a few months of those after -- the release of Manners which often stood-in for the luxury of a proper rehearsal time. Those months of touring showcased Michael and company evolving from aesthetic chrysalis to full-fledged band, a leap that has impressed both early skeptics and die-hard fans alike.
Michael, who counts 70s folk among his many obsessions, is extremely hesitant to sample any music at all, preferring to use songs and sounds as cryptic reference points and textures rather than literal references. When he listened to Mary O'Hara's take on the classic folk tune, he immediately heard a whole new song, finding in the Gaelic phrase for 'Oh, My Little Boat,' the perfect sonic flourish for "Sleepyhead.
Angelakos is continually writing according to his own technique. According to Michael, "Sleepyhead" just appeared in his head and was completed in less than two hours on his computer. Knowing exactly how to perform it vocally, he ran over to Hulquist's apartment for the purposes of singing the song into a better microphone, and wrote the lyrics on the spot as he recorded them. And, as a lesson to all crusty label heads out there, they've put the mp3 up on their own site for download. Download: Passion Pit, "Sleepyhead".
Did Passion Pit begin as a passion project? Kind of, but more like a guilt project. I'm so bad about being timely with anything, including presents and such.
My girlfriend and I have kind of marked Valentine's Day as our anniversary, but last year I, in character, did not have anything to give. I had been playing around with writing music again as I hadn't written anything in awhile.
I was just making little beats with pretty, simple melodies that would make my roommates dance. They liked it and I soon realized she liked it, so I just continued to base the entire project off of how much of my nonsense she has to put up with.
Believe it was effective. But, to sum it up, Passion Pit was never meant to be anything but just that… a little present. So, are you still dating? How did you team up with Frenchkiss Records? To be completely honest, I'm not exactly sure of how they heard of us.
I believe it had something to do with a show we played with Girl Talk, someone having kind words to say, and then the guys at FKR liking the mp3s. We met up soon after but I was pretty much certain that they were who I wanted to work with, judging from their approach within the industry, their roster, and just their personalities in general. I really have nothing but good things to say about everyone I've been working with. Add Your Thoughts Comments.
General Comment This song is amazing and it makes me feel so free. I see the sex metaphor but to me it's something else. Besides just being awesome, it reminds me of after breaking down. You're tired and your eyes are burning. You've been on fire with sadness or rage. Now you're coming down and you're so sleepy. In the morning her family and friends crowd her, proud and hungry for their own stable lifestyle.
It might feel like they're against her when all she needs is to sleep with the guy who protected her through her breakdown and all night. He loves her and he's going to stay. Sometimes it definitely feels like more of a sexual meaning. DecemberSun on March 09, Link.
There was an error. Great interpretation. I think you really nailed it. Love the song and your interpretation - makes me see much more in it than ever. I actually heard somewhere that this song is about rape. So that's actually pretty ironic that this is the song that happened to I'm super sorry about that. But it does kind of show the parallels.. Yes, that's a very good interpretation.
I've noticed now that he seems to mention things like 'burning thin the burning rim'. This sounds like it is representing her weakness, and that she's breaking down. Also 'They crowd your bedroom like some thoughts wearing thin' shows her strain, and I think that you're also right about protection.
My Interpretation The title "Sleepyhead" appears to me a description of someone who appears, quite literally, very sleepy: this person is suffering from an injury or terminal illness. The first verse concerning fire is, to me, the sufferer describing the pain of the affliction, which seems to have a manifestation in the eyes "brims".
At one point, the sufferer was "one inch from the edge of this bed," i. Bursting may mean some kind of heart failure or other literal bursting. You don't usually crowd in the room of someone who's already dead. It is at this point that the grim possibility that death really is here becomes apparent through the thin thoughts of denial. They are there against the sufferer's wishes rules , because if the sufferer had had it their way, the plug would have already been pulled and these people wouldn't be here.
Again, the eyes make an appearance. The last line of the song is 'of your eyes, begonia skies like a sleepyhead, sleepyhead'. I think you are spot on with it being about a coma though - I appeneded my comment to reflect that. General Comment And everything is going to the beat And everything is going to the beat And everything is going And you said it was like fire around the brim Burning solid burning thin the burning rim Like stars burning holes right through the dark Flicking fire like saltwater into my eyes You were one inch from the edge of this bed I dragged you back a sleepyhead They couldn't think of something to say the day you burst With all their lions and all their might and all their thirst They crowd your bedroom like some thoughts wearing thin Against the walls against your rules against your skin My beard grew down to the floor and out through the doors Of your eyes, begonia skies like a sleepyhead Your head Kurikuri on October 22, Link.
This song sint about love or sex, its about smoking weed. I know you probably dont want to hear it but its true. You may not like it but thats what the song is about.
NVP on December 23, My Interpretation I interpret that this song is about someone morning the death of someone who he or she loved, who was a heroin addict. After I read through the lyrics of this song, I had definite feelings of sadness, loss, and tragedy for the following reasons: And you said, it was like fire around the brim Burning solid, burning thin the burning rim Like stars burning holes right through the dark This heroin addict is describing the awesome sensation of being high to her lover, for whom I assume has never done the drug and he does not want her to do it.
The fire being the sensation of the heroin flooding the body when it is first injected.
